Below is a list of websites (with links) for the variety of trails I have walked in the past or am in the process of walking.
Trail name | From where to where? | Distance | Trail description | Link |
Wild Yorkshire Way | Circular (all “Yorkshires”, including Malham Tarn, Keld, Great Whernside and Osmotherley) | 526 miles | This is a fabulous circular trail designed by Ian. The trail goes around all “Yorkshires” (East, South, West and North) and many many of its gems (Peak District, the Dales and North York Moors). Many wonderfully remote stretches, with some delightfully off grid! | Please click |
Pennine Way | Edale – Kirk Yetholm | 268 miles | A superb National Trail (Peak District – Yorkshire Dales – Hadrian’s Wall – The Cheviots). Long, challenging (which is fun) and unforgettable. | Please click |
Cleveland Way | Filey – Helmsley | 109 miles | Another great National Trail. This one combines walking the gorgeous North Yorkshire coastline with then traversing across the North York Moors. A beautiful experience. | Please click |
Viking Way | Barton upon Humber – Oakham | 147 miles | This is a lovely (mostly flat, though) long distance hike mostly in Lincolnshire, starting just south of the Humber. Lots of lovely quaint villages and peaceful meadows on the way. | Please click |
Coast to Coast | St Bees – Robin Hood’s Bay | 192 miles | A famous trail from St Bees in Cumbria over the awesome Lake District (I’ve done this bit already) via Swaledale, North York Moors to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire. | Please click |
Yorkshire Wolds Way | Hessle (East Yorkshire) – Filey | 79 miles | Another National Trail with beautiful gentle Yorkshire Wolds on the way and the dramatic Filey coastline at its conclusion. | Please click |
Dales Way | Leeds – Ilkley – Bowness on Windermere | 97 miles | A spectacular route officially starting in Ilkley with a link route from Leeds via Yorkshire Dales finishing at Lake Windermere in Cumbria. One of the best I’ve walked in England. | Please click |
Southern Uplands Way | Portpatrick (Dumfries and Galloway) – Cockburnspath (Scottish Borders) | 214 miles | Scottish equivalent to the English Coast-to-Coast. A really remote long-distance walk in Dumfries and Galloway and Scottish Borders. Stunning views, serenity and gorgeous lochs on the way. | Please click |
Tabular Hills Walk | Scarborough – Helmsley | 48 miles | A short route linking Scarborough and Helmsley via Dalby Forest. | Please click |
Lyke Wake Walk | Ravenscar to Osmotherley | 42 miles | A quiet and mostly remote trek across North York Moors via Blakey Ridge. | Please click |
Shropshire Way (South) | Circular: Shrewsbury via Craven Arms | 122 miles | A very beautiful and very green long distance route in Shropshire close to the Welsh border, some along the Offa’s Dyke Path. | Please click |
